Natural Horsemanship Clinic
We will be holding a Natural Horsemanship Training day on Saturday the 8th May in our Cheval riding grounds. Merja Sumiloff will be presenting the day. The cost is E15 per spectator and for the 6 people bringing their own horses, the cost is E100. There are a few places left for members wishing to bring their own horse, so if you interested in attending as either a spectator or to see if there is a place left to bring your horse, please contact Jeannie Regan as soon as possible. Ph: 086 0792977, or email jeannieregan@dublin.ie.
Natural horsemanship is all about communicating with your horse in a manner that he understands. Effectively you’re talking “horse” to the horse. Horses communicate with each other through energy and body language. To learn this kind of communication wins over your horses mind, body and heart, which ultimately leads to better results overall, whether you’re into competitive riding or you just want to have a great partnership with your horse at home.
Merja graduated from Harju Agricultural College in 1996 completing a 3-year Equine Science Degree and shortly afterwards she obtained a position as a groom from Finland's oldest and best known riding school, Keskustalli in Helsinki.
She came to Ireland to work in Waterside stud in 1998 and was promoted to the position of a Head Groom shortly after her arrival. In the past 15 years she has taught riding and horsemanship in several different yards, both in Finland and in Ireland, and still trains horse-rider combinations of all levels in all disciplines. She is also very experienced in working with young horses. Having spent over 2 years in training race horses, she has accumulated a great knowledge in different areas of equestrianism. Merja has competed on national level in dressage, show-jumping, eventing and showing, first in Finland and then in Ireland.
In the last few years Merja has become an advocate for Natural Horsemanship, which she teaches in all her lessons and workshops. She is currently working for her Official qualifications for teaching Pure Natural Horsemanship. Merja has a natural horsemanship yard in Shankill, Co Dublin, where her competition horses are based. She still has high aspirations for her equestrian career, nothing short of representing Finland in the coming years in eventing on international level.
The day will start at 9.00am and will include a demo by Merja with one of her own horses. You will find out about horses personality types and how to communicate effectively and learn the language of horses. The day will finish at 4.30. It will be a fun, informative day so book your place early!!
