Kernans 26th Jan

NER Showjumping League – Cheval in the Ribbons!!!

NER Competition kicked off on Sunday 26th Jan in Kernan’s EQ centre. The controversial new format was tried out and it proved very successful with the whole day being wrapped up by 5.30pm. Compliments must go to the club trio of Cavallo, Dorsey and Cheval for running a very tight ship.

The day started at 10am sharp with the Welcome Stakes classes, these are a one round optimum time based class for Primary & Advanced Primary & a one round speed for Intermediate & above. In the primary class, Your Horse proprietor Sarah Kileen (Diamond Flight) took home 2nd place to start the Cheval flag flying. The NER league classes started at 12.30pm with the primary. Sarah Killeen (Diamond Flight) did one better than her previous class and took home the red ribbon , Claire Halpenny (Ruthie) secured 4th with Michelle Lynch and her new mount Marley securing 5th . Well done to all.

In the Advanced Primary section Cheval had four out in action. Brian Whelan (Delta) & Michelle Mellett (Majestic Manhattan) were denied by a pole with new member Elizabeth McNamera (Forest Witch) ensuring a placing with a double clear - Well done to Elizabeth who secured 5th  place in her first NER outing for Cheval. Irene Kavanagh rode HC with Midsommers Bopde Babe & came home clear. In the Intermediate class -competition was fierce with 30 competitors and Cheval had 4 representatives. Lorna Gissane (Gringo), Paul O Reilly (Zola), Robert Flanagan (Romeo) and Mags Carrick (Lady Jayne). Both Lorna & Paul produced steady double clears with Mags and Robert picking up 4 faults a piece.

In the Advanced Intermediate (AI) class Cheval had 2 competitors, Laura and Maria Carrick. Laura rode My Foxy Lass in the AI for the first time while Maria who recently upgraded took on her first AI class. Laura picked up 8 faults in the speed section on My Foxy Lass while Maria picked up 4. Well done Maria on completion of your first AI. Laura was also out in action with Church View Lad and produced the fastest speed round of the day only to be denied the win by the last pole. Val Ward who is a Cheval member but who rides for Cavallo produced a very fast and clear round to take top honours. Val was campaigning the chestnut gelding Harry who is currently for sale and who took first in the Welcome Stakes. Anyone interested in Harry can contact Val Ward.

The new format will go under review at the next NER meeting & possible changes will be made before action heads to Glaslough on 8th Feb.
